The Role of DNA in Gun Intelligence and Reducing Gun Violence
Since 2020, gun violence has increased throughout the United States. The investigation and prevention of the proliferation of crime guns, non-fatal shootings, and homicides are essential elements to local, state and federal public safety plans. As one of the largest cities in the United States, Philadelphia faces these issues on a daily basis. Through partnerships with federal agencies, such as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and innovative approaches to increase forensic services dedicated to gun violence, the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) strives to use crime gun intelligence to solve and prevent shootings.
